Week of April 20, 2026

May 4-H County Council Meeting

Join us for a meaningful Hands to Service meeting as we honor our local heroes! This month, we are becoming Star Makers.

We will be carefully removing the embroidered stars from retired American flags to create "Star Tokens." These stars will be packaged with a note of gratitude and distributed to active-duty service members, veterans, and first responders, ensuring that even when a flag is ready to be retired, its spirit of bravery lives on in the pockets of those who served. Please RSVP so we know how many stars will need to be prepared.

Meeting Details:

Thursday, May 21, 2026

6:30pm-8:00pm

Pitt County Extension Office.

The Mission: Cutting, prepping, and packaging stars from retired flags.

The Impact: Providing a tangible "thank you" to our community's service members.

What to Bring: If you have a pair of sharp fabric scissors, please bring them along!

Come ready to serve, lead, and make a difference!

Your Child Has Something to Say. We Give Them the Power (and the Prizes) to Say It.

Is your child passionate about a hobby, a science project, or a cause? Don't let that spark stay at home. 4-H Presentations take that passion and turn it into a powerhouse skill set, and this year, the stakes are higher than ever.

Whether they are a seasoned pro or taking the stage for the first time, your child will master the art of "learning by doing." They won't just talk; they will teach, demonstrate, and lead.

What’s on the Line?

We believe big effort deserves big rewards. Participants aren't just competing for experience; they’re competing for:

Awards & Scholarships: Turn a great presentation into an investment in their future.

Trips: Top performers could earn the chance to travel, represent their county, and let their voice be heard.

Medals: Earn prestigious 4-H honors that stand out on college applications and resumes.

How It Works

A 4-H presentation is more than a speech, it’s a dynamic demonstration. Using a mix of speaking skills and visual aids, your child will:

  1. Choose a Topic: Anything they love!
  2. Show & Tell: Use props, posters, or digital slides to teach the audience.
  3. County Practice: Must be done before May 12 with 4-H Staff
  4. Attend District Activity Day: Will be held in Edgecombe County, June 26th, 2026
  5. Win Big: 1st and 2nd place winners will advance to State Competition!

The first 30 seconds of your presentation are the most important. To grab the judges' attention immediately: The Hook: Start with a surprising statistic, a bold question, or a 5-second personal story. Avoid starting with "My name is..."—save the basics for after you’ve hooked them! The Look: Pick three "anchor" spots in the room (left, center, right) and rotate your eye contact. If you’re nervous, look at the judges' foreheads—they won’t know the difference, and you’ll look like a pro
