Attend an Information Session
The first step in becoming an Extension Master Gardener℠ (EMG) volunteer in Pitt County is attending an information session. During this session, you will learn what it means to be an EMGV and the training and volunteer requirements for the program. This will help you decide if becoming an EMGV is the right choice for you. Both sessions are the same and will be held in person at the N.C. Cooperative Extension of Pitt County office: 403 Government Circle Greenville, NC 27834. Please choose the date and time that fits your schedule.
Sessions are scheduled for:
June 24, 2021 – 6 p.m. and July 8, 2021 – 10 a.m.

Submit Your Application and Training Fee by July 23
Applications for the Extension Master Gardener℠ program of Pitt County are due by July 23, 2021. To receive a printed copy of the Application and Certification Agreement, contact the N.C. Cooperative Extension of Pitt County office at (252) 902-1709 or email hesingle@ncsu.edu.
2021 EMG Application & Certification Agreement
The total cost for Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteer training is $150.00. The cost includes $55.00 for access to the fully integrated NC State Extension Gardener Handbook (e-book), $45.00 for expenses directly related to course delivery including name tags, training materials, and supplies, as well as a $50.00 program development fee per trainee that is assessed by NC State University. This program development fee is the sole funding source for the statewide Extension Master Gardener℠ program of Pitt County (staff, website maintenance, program development, etc.).
Attend Orientation
An orientation session for participants accepted into the Extension Master Gardener℠ program of Pitt County will be August 17, 2021, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. This meeting is mandatory for those who have applied for the Extension Master Gardener℠ program of Pitt County.
Complete 10-Week Training Intensive
The Fall 2021 training intensive for Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteers of Pitt County will be taught using a combination of in-person and online work. Trainees will use an asynchronous online portal to complete weekly reading, homework, and quiz assignments as assigned by the Extension agent. Trainees will then meet once a week, in person, for further hands-on training. The in-person schedule is as follows:
September 9, 2021: 2–4 p.m.
September 16, 2021: 2–4 p.m.
September 23, 2021: 2–4 p.m.
September 30, 2021: 2–4 p.m.
October 7, 2021: 2–4 p.m.
October 14, 2021: 2–4 p.m.
October 21, 2021: 2–4 p.m.
October 28, 2021: 2–4 p.m.
November 4, 2021: 2–4 p.m.
November 18, 2021: 2–4 p.m.
**Meeting times are subject to change based on final trainees’ availability.**
Volunteer!
Volunteers will complete a 40-hour internship within one year of completing this training. Trainees are encouraged to begin volunteering during the training course.
