The Interview

The interview is worth 50 points (the largest chunk of the score). It tests your "First Impressions," "Youth Issue Knowledge," and "4-H Experience."

You aren't just answering "What is your favorite color?" You are being asked about the teacher shortage, mental health, and food safety.

Hands-On Lesson: The "STAR" Method Practice

For behavioral questions (like "Tell me about a tough decision"), use the STAR method:

• Situation: Set the scene.
• Task: What was the challenge?
• Action: What did you specifically do?
• Result: What happened in the end?

Try it now: Pick the prompt: "Tell me about a time you had to make an unpopular decision." Draft a 30-second STAR response and say it out loud in front of a mirror. Watch your eye contact!
