Collapse ▲The first Donation Station of 2024 will take place this Saturday, 4-6-24 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Leroy James Farmers Market located at 4560 County Home Road Greenville, NC 27858. Come out and support our local farmers and give back to local food pantries in Pitt County. We will be providing information on nutrition, recipes, and much more!
The Donation Station program began at the Leroy James Farmers Market on April 4, and will occur the first Saturday of the month in the 2024 season (see schedule below). Farmers’ market shoppers will be able to purchase fresh produce from farmers and vendors, and then donate it at the Donation Station table. Shoppers can also offer a monetary donation, which will then be used to purchase fresh produce from farmers at the market at full value. At the end of each market, the donated produce will be given to Pitt County Food Pantries on the same day to serve their clients.
Donation Stations seek to improve access to fresh, locally-grown food while supporting the farmers who grow it. They are designed to combat local food insecurity while raising awareness that a healthy local food system must include every member of the community.
- Support farmers by purchasing their food
- Make healthy, local food available to food pantry clients and other food insecure populations
- Divert any food waste at the end of the market
