Keith Wood Discussing Bee Keeping

In partnership with Graham and Cherokee County we held an Agricultural Awareness Field Day here in Clay County on Friday March 13, 2020, and in Graham County on March 6,2020. It was a really informative program that included four presentations.

  • Randy Collins, Director in Graham County discussed identification, control and history of Asian Long-Horn Tick, Spotted Lanternfly and Spotted Winged Drosophila.
  • Doug Clement, County Extension Director in Clay and Cherokee County informed the public on varieties of plants that are more firewise and how to become a FireWise community.
  • Keith Wood, N.C. Cooperative Extension, Cherokee County Center explained how to properly start and maintain a beehive. He also went in-depth on explaining how a beehive works and all the tools needed.
  • Craig Wininger, N.C. Cooperative Extension, Clay County Center discussed Hemp production including growing from seeds vs clones, male vs female plants, variety selection, budget and products made from Hemp.

We are looking at having more of these programs in the future so make sure to check our website often. For more info on anything Ag related feel free to call me in the office at 828-389-6305.
