Water is the most important beverage to consume because roughly 60% of our body is water. And during the hot summer months, it is even more important to stay hydrated by drinking water. Children and older adults are more susceptible to dehydration. Dehydration is the single most common reason for older adults to go to an emergency room. Signs of mild dehydration include dizziness or lightheadedness, dry mouth, lips and eyes, headache, and fatigue. These symptoms are telling your body it is time to rehydrate. Many of the beverages we consume are filled with sugar or salt, which will dehydrate us, causing us to want to drink more, which makes us reach for another unhealthy beverage. Instead of adding on the sugar and calories, reach for a refreshing glass of water.

Chicken Fajitas – serves 6 ($1.23/serving)

1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast

2 tsp chili powder

2 tsp garlic powder

1 ½ Tbsp oil

1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced

1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced

1 medium onion, thinly sliced

6 (8inch) whole wheat tortillas

Optional: chopped cilantro, chopped tomatoes, shredded cheese, sliced jalapeno

Cut chicken in ¼” strips. Place in a single layer on a plate. Sprinkle both sides of strips with chili and garlic powder. Add oil to a 12-inch skillet. Heat to medium high. Add chicken strips. Cook 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently. Add bell peppers and onion. Stir and cook until vegetables are tender and chicken is cooked to 165 degrees. Scoop chicken mixture (2/3 cup each) onto tortillas. Top with your favorite toppings.
