February 2022 Fundraiser

2022 Fundraiser for Horticultural Enrichment Fund

Dear all,

My group and I would like to thank you for the years of continuous trust in our work and services. We are a small, but dedicated group of professionals and students. Every single day, our team makes sure that we provide the best viticulture information and research to grape growers in North Carolina. I would like to give just a few examples of what we provide every year to the industry:

  • Timely spring frost advisories that help you to make the best decisions in the vineyard.
  • Hands-on intensive pruning and trunk disease management workshops.
  • Consultation for new growers and potential vineyard sites.
  • Year-round viticulture education opportunities (between 15-25 annual events).

History

We started in NC just under five years ago. Ever since, a large portion of our work is scientific viticulture research. Our team works tirelessly on solutions that are beneficial to every grape and wine business in NC. Thanks to our leadership, today grape growers in NC are able to send samples for grapevine virus testing to NC State University for a fraction of the typical cost. This service did not exist when we started. Today, we are looking for ways to enhance the industry by evaluating better management methods for systemic diseases, investigating new grape cultivars, and working with the green transplant industry to enhance NC viticulture long-term. The students in our team do not just learn in the classroom, but build independence, initiative, and responsibility through our work with the industry and all of you.

Many of what I described above happens because of donors. Donations make about 10% of our budget, and are an essential part of our every day work. They are used to support our education, research, and extension activities in many ways. A more detailed explanation is given in the attached donation drive newsletter. Every donated dollar will directly help support students with their travel and fees. Additionally, it will help keep our weather advisories going, our cars serviced, and our bills paid.

Give now

We would be honored to have your support and respectfully submit this proposal for a gift to the Horticultural Science Enrichment Fund. If you feel our work is worth something to you, now is the time to extend your support. Your donation will be put to a good cause, no matter how small or large. It would make all the difference to our team, and it is essential to help us grow and continue to do good work.

Please follow the link above or take a deeper dive into our Information Brochure. On behalf of my entire team, I thank you for taking the time to read this. We all hope to continue building on our work and to provide the best possible service to you in the future.

Please feel free to reach out to me any time if you have questions,

Sincerely,

Mark Hoffmann
