May 6 2020

In response to both the Governor’s Executive Order on May 5 regarding Phase 1, as well as Chancellor Woodson’s memo that came out just after the Executive Order was released, I wanted to share the following:

We will keep our no face-to-face programming plan in place through May 21. There is still a strong expectation that everyone continues to work remotely.

We also understand that, county by county, there will be plans to repopulate county offices at various levels. While we understand that this is happening, I also want to respect those employees that may need to continue to work from home for various reasons. If there are issues with the county governments on this matter, we (DED’s, Nikki Kurdys, my office) are happy to have a conversation with the appropriate county administrator. In addition, for N.C. A&T State University employees, you will receive additional guidance from A&T.

For those of you on the NC State University campus, the university as well as your department heads will communicate any protocols regarding coming back into the office. Restarting research will be the first priority on campus.

For those that stay at home but are unable to work for whatever reason, Paid Administrative Leave is in place through May 8. We have received no guidance as to what happens with PAL after May 8. We will communicate more information as it becomes available.

I know that this is difficult and that a “restart” is moving slowly. I want to assure you that your safety comes first, followed closely by the safety of our customers.

Below are two CDC documents that deal with reopening. At whatever point we start face-to-face programming or repopulate our offices, I think you may find both of these documents useful:

We will continue to communicate as new details become available.

Stay safe everyone,
RichB
